Some Successes of the 1st year - Chair Based exercises

Active Healthy Crawley

Our delivery partners are...

A team consisting of myself (Project Lead), Subcontracted workers, and now Housing Scheme Managers and a representative of the Neighbourhood Network

We have funding and support from...

From Colleagues within the Active Crawley Team and the Community Services Directorate.

The project is located in...

The Crawley Borough, West Sussex

The start and finish dates of the project are...

Year one of project - Continuous

The people helped are...

Concentrating on older (isolated) adults in there communities

What they have said is...

"This has given me the confidence to get fitter and continue with regular exercise"

"Fun, enjoyable sessions, highly recommend it for anyone"

We set up the project because...

There was a clear demand for the activities, and scope to develop

The difference this project makes is...

Encouraging indivuals to meet and regulary exercise on a weekly basis.

Getting people to socialise more, and potentially sign post to other activities within the Crawley Borough

What we did or are doing

At various Housing schemes (Council and Privately run) and community venues ,we have a chairbased trained instructor to run a 45-60min chairbased class.

The classes are designed for all levels of fitness - And are Both functional, but at the same time FUN!

Sessions are a combination of stretching, functional exercises, and potential to help with Falls prevention. They usually involve using stress balls, bump balls, then with advanced groups we develop to using handweights or baked bean tins for resistance.

All chairbased sessions are clearly branded with the chances4change logos - Including posters for the marketing, staff uniform, branded stress balls and water bottles.

We chose this method because...

After consultation, and meeting with various agencies - There was a clear demand for this activity, and availability of getting staff trained with a quality training provider.

What's happened is...

With the help of the chances4change portfolio, we have now in the Crawley Borough and the "Active, Health Crawley Project" - Funded 9 Chair Based instructors, and recently become a SPA Provider.

What we'd do differently...

Potentially in the future we hope that the project lead will be cascade trained and be able to train larger numbers within the Crawley Borough, and chances4change portfolio.

Evaluation

Every session we have a register and record data of the indivduals, which every quarter is inputted into the Active Crawley team database. Ready for reporting as required by the chances4change portfolio.

This project helped to deliver...

The Active Healthy Crawley project seeks to address West Sussex's priorities as set out in the local Area agreement: Outcome 11, Outcome 20 and Outcome 22.

The project is now...

On going / Self sustaining
